In Comm, each community resides on an individual's keyservers. Users have the option to host a keyserver on their local laptop or in a cloud environment. Comm does not provide keyserver hosting services to prioritize user data privacy. The presence of keyservers enables Comm to offer advanced features akin to those found on corporate cloud servers while maintaining user privacy and security.

While a keyserver is not required to join a community, it is essential for creating one. Each community in Comm features a structured tree of chat threads, analogous to Discord's channels but with the added capability of nesting threads within one another. Additionally, Comm offers "sidebars" that function similarly to threads in Slack, generated as responses to messages in parent threads.

Beyond basic chat functionalities, Comm offers a selection of apps for community customization. At present, users can access the Calendar app, with more applications set for release in the future.
